Do you suffer from the January Blues? Christmas is over, you are back in work, broke and it's weeks until pay day.

Is January the worst month of the year?

Here are 9 reasons why we think it is.

1) RETURN TO WORK

After lounging around in your new pyjamas until lunchtime it's time to get back to reality. Early nights and earlier mornings return as you go back to being a grown-up with responsibilities.

2) LACK OF DAYLIGHT

The shortest day of the year may be in December but you were too busy doing the Baby Shark at your Christmas party to care.

Now, though, it's dark when you leave for work and dark when you get home.

3) SUGAR WITHDRAWL

Selection Box for breakfast, Fabulously Fox's biscuits in the afternoon, some Quality Street in the evening.

Those were the days my friend.

4) GYM IS FULL

New Year's Resolutions start, and end, in the local gym.

If only there wasn't a queue to get on the treadmill you could work off that sugar rush.

5) BANK ACCOUNT IS EMPTY

Spending money like a drunken sailor in December was always going to bring it's own problems.

That is, if you consider buying food and paying rent a problem.

6) DRY JANUARY

You have no money so this one is not really a resolution rather than a requirement.

Some people are happy with a Damp January, slighlty wet using the leftover Christmas bottles in the garage

7) HEALTHY EATING

It's not enough for some people to cut-down on the sugar, alcohol and hit the gym this month

No, January is not January without kale crisps and avocado on everything.

Ugh!

8) BLUE MONDAY

It may have started as a stunt, but all of this adds up to Blue Monday, the name given to the most depressing day of the year, when the accumulation of all of the above leaves most people feeling at their lowest.

This year it falls on Monday, 21st January.

9) WINTER IS COMING

There isn't any good weather to look forward too. Despite being told that Spring starts on February 1st, it really doesn't arrive until after St. Patricks's Day.

Last year, the Beast from the East was from 24th February to 4th March.

Better stock up on bread.
