What do you do when your sick son suffers from severe low self esteem due to scars left from a life saving brain operation?
Josh Marshall decided to give his son Gabriel a confidence boost following his cancer treatment
In March 2015, Gabriel was diagnosed with a form of cancer called anaplastic astrocytoma, a rare malignant brain tumour and needed life saving surgery.
However, his Dad said that Gabriel told him he felt like a “monster” because of a large scar he has as a result of his surgery.
“This broke my heart,” Marshall said. The thoughtful father’s solution was to get a tattoo that resembled his son’s scar
“I told him if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both of us,” he said.
Marshall told BuzzFeed News that while Gabriel still has some of the tumour in his brain, his last few scans show he is now stable.
Josh entered a touching photo of both himself and Gabriel for St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s #BestBaldDad competition for Father's Day.
The competition asked for photo submissions from Dads, Uncles and Grandfathers who shaved their heads in support of a child fighting cancer and Josh's gesture won!
