Dublin announces plan for turning on Christmas lights in city centre

Dublin City Council have confirmed the full schedule for the annual turning on the Christmas lights in the city centre and it looks like each event will be a fun family day out.

Dublin centre is divided into four zones and each area’s lights will be switched on at different dates throughout this month.

Each ceremony will be a free family event with lots of fun, entertainment and live musical performances.

Grafton Street Lighting Ceremony - Sunday 13 November, 6pm

Performances from headline acts Hermitage Green and Glenn & Ronan (who performed live with Adele & appeared on The Ellen Show

Henry Street Lighting Ceremony - Thursday 17 November, 5pm

Performances from headline acts The Riptide Movement and Glenn & Ronan (who performed live with Adele & appeared on The Ellen Show

Smithfield Lighting Ceremony - Thursday 24 November, 4pm

Performances from headline acts Jerry Fish & Sinead White

O’Connell Street Christmas Tree Lights - Sunday 27 November, 4pm

Switching on of the lights by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr and your chance to take part in the world record breaking ‘Geansaí Nollag’ challenge. Hosted by Al Porter & Dustin the Turkey with a performance by headline act The Academic.

Some facts about the Dublin Christmas lights:

  • It takes 20 people over 4 weeks working 200 hours through the night to put up all the lights
  • Thirty streets have lights stretching over 4.5 km in length
  • The lights will be on from 13th November to 7th January
  • The lights will be on for 1,000 hours
