The European Central Bank has printed new €50 notes that will be in circulation from April 4.
Speaking on Crimecall, Garda Sergeant Kelvin Courtney revealed that it’s hoped the new note will help in the ongoing battle against counterfeiters.
It is the fourth new note in the Europa series after new €5, €10 and €20 notes have already been released.
Garda Sergeant Courtney added that it is important to get to know the new note, especially if your job involves handling
If you tilt the banknote and hold it up to light, the silvery stripe reveals a portrait of Europa in a hologram near the top.
The note is also firmer and has raised embossing along the edges and in the centre of the note.
Old €50 banknotes will remain valid as legal tender.
