A waiter was shocked to receive a $500 tip on a bill of just .37c until a note scrawled on a napkin explained why.
Kasey Simmons works at Applebees in Dallas and last week, when he looked at the bill after someone ordered the cheapest item on the menu, flavoured water for $0.37, was shocked to see the customer left a $500 tip.
The day before, while shopping for groceries he noticed an elderly lady looked sad. He stopped and talked to her, tried to cheer her up and finally offerered to pay for her shopping.
"It was only $17, but it's not about the money. It's about showing someone you care." Simmons said.
The next day, the lady's daughter left a note to explain the large tip and that her mother was feeling down the day before as it was the third anniversary of her husbands death.
"On one of the most depressing days of the year ... you made my mother's day wonderful, You insisted on paying. Told her she is a very beautiful woman. I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died", the note reads.
