Blue Monday is the term given to the most depressing day of the year but Ryanair has launched a clever campaign to cheer you up.

Dr Cliff Arnall, formerly of Cardiff University coined the term to describe the day when most people are feeling a little low, the third Monday in January.

Most of us are suffering from post-Christmas gloom, cold and wet weather, empty wallets and struggling to keep up with our New Year's resolutions.

Robin Kiely from Ryanair said: “It’s officially the most depressing day of the year, but the only thing lower than the nation’s mood is our fares.

“In an effort to cheer everyone up, we’ve launched a Blue (& Yellow) Monday seat sale, with €9.99 fares for travel in January and February, available for booking today.

“These sale seats are on sale until midnight tonight, Monday, so customers should log on to the Ryanair.com website and banish the winter blues by booking a bargain getaway today.”

Head to the Ryanair website to check our the deals available.
