106-year-old Elizabeth Dempsey was presented with a cert by the Minister for Older People Helen McEntee yesterday and shared her secret to a long life.
Ms Demspey is among more than 40 centenarians living in nursing homes nationwide who will be given the certificates in the coming weeks.
The certificate, which include a copy of the Proclamation, are presented on behalf of Nursing Homes Ireland to mark those who have reached or passed their 100th birthday during the centenary of the 1916 Rising.
Asked about the secrets of living a long life, along with avoiding vices including members of the opposite sex, Elizabeth, reported the Independent, said:
“Plenty of fresh air, good food and an 11am coffee that sets me up for the day.
