A young girl from Dublin has won this year's Doodle 4 Google competition.

Six-year-old Erica Redmond is a Senior Class student in Scoil Carmel school in Firhouse, Tallaght, Dublin claimed the top prize when the results were announced yesterday.

Her doodle is called ‘My Happy Robot Tom’ and it was selected first in the competition that featured over 4,000 students from schools around Ireland.

It will feature as Google's Doodle on the search engine's home page this Friday.

Erica wins a €5,000 education grant and Scoil Carmel will receive €10,000 to spend on technology for the school.

Erica said her robot is "about helping to clean up".

"His name is Tom and he is multicoloured because I like rainbows. Tom helps me to clean up", added Erica.
