Status Yellow warning issued as Ireland set for torrential rain

Met Eireann has issued a national Status Yellow weather warning as the country is set to be soaked with heavy rain today.

The warning is in place from 9 am - 10 pm Wednesday with accumulations of rainfall between 25mm and 40mm expected.

The rain will gradually clear from the south-west during the late afternoon and across to the east and north on Wednesday night.

Thursday will start dry with sunny spells across the country but rain will move in from the Atlantic during the afternoon moving to the east and north during the evening.

Friday will also start off bright and dry but thunderstorms are expected across the west of the country in the afternoon.

The forecast for the weekend is for the unsettled weather to continue with scattered heavy rain expected at times, especially during a stormy Saturday evening.
