Summer returns later this week with top temperatures of 24C

The period of changeable weather is set to continue this week but Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be very hot.

The week started off with a mixture of wet and windy weather but temperatures are expected to rise as the week progresses.

Heavy rain is forecast for Connacht and Ulster on Tuesday morning but it will give way to scattered showers in the afternoon followed by some bright spells in the evening. Munster and Leinster will be dry and, during some sunny breaks, the temperatures will hit 21C.

Although Wednesday and Thursday may see periods of cloud cover, it is expected to be dry, hot and humid over both days.

Early indications are that it will become cooler during Friday and over the weekend, with changeable and unsettled weather with the risk of rain.
