This lucky cat only has eight lives left after he was rescued from the River Liffey in Dublin this week.

The rescuer threw a lifebuoy into the river and the cat managed to climb on.

Crowds of onlookers shouted encouragement as the cat held on while it was pulled up to safety.

The heroic rescue was captured by passers-by who filmed as the drama unfolded.

Since the footage has been published, the successful rescue is being celebrated around the world and has even been shared by the BBC.
