Marketers love their adverts to get attention especially one that engenders an emotional response.
Volkswagen should, therefore, be delighted by the reaction to their latest TV advert in the US.
The campaign for new Volkswagen Atlas has been received favourably across America for its many themes featuring immigration, the American Dream, family and some beautiful scenery from all over the States.
The central theme of the advert is a family uniting on a journey with their Grandmother who has just lost her husband.
The Granny is played by 78-year-old Marie Gallagher, herself a grandmother to seven, and the photo used in the ad is a real one of her and her husband.
She won the role when casting agents called to her house an hour before she was expecting them.
Mrs. Gallagher had planned on serving them tea and Irish bread that was baking in the oven but instead had to open the door with her wet hair still in rollers.
She told Ad Age: "I thought I was going to be all dolled up looking like a million dollars".
But all she could do was "settle down, open the door, this is the way I am," she added.
