The forecast is for the current unsettled weather to continue throughout the weekend with a risk of flooding in Munster.
Heavy rain or thundery showers will continue during Thursday in Cork and Kerry, with up to 40mm rainfall in places.
Friday, however, will be dry and bright in most places before wet weather returns from the south-west moving northeast during the evening.
The heavy rain will remain on Saturday morning, gradually clearing eastwards as the day progresses. It will be a warm, humid day with high temperatures reaching the low 20s.
Sunday will be cooler, again with some scattered and heavy showers in the west.
The early indications are that although there will still be some showers next week, it will not be as wet as it has been and most days will have prolonged bright and dry periods,
