Weekend weather expected to be mild and dry for start of festive season

Winter officially arrives this weekend but the weather is expected to be milder than recent days.

Thursday will be mostly dry and cloudy with some scattered showers. It will be cold overnight with lowest temperatures falling to - 2C in the east and south.

Once the early frost clear,  Friday will be dry and bright with sunny spells until early afternoon when patches of light rain will develop gradually over Ulster, north Connacht and north Leinster. Overnight temperatures will be 1 or 2 degrees.

The outlook for the weekend is for a period of dry and settled weather with high temperatures between about 7 and 11 degrees during the day and between 3 and 6 degrees overnight.
