National Drawing Day takes place across Ireland this May, bringing together museums, galleries, libraries and arts venues for a full day of free drawing events, workshops and creative activities for all ages. Organised by the National Gallery of Ireland and partner venues around the country, the programme encourages children, families and adults to take part in drawing sessions ranging from sketching and painting to large-scale collaborative art projects.
A strong family programme takes place across Dublin, Kilkenny and Mayo, with events including Drawing on the Lawn at the National Gallery of Ireland, family life-drawing sessions at Hugh Lane Gallery and interactive workshops at Draíocht in Blanchardstown where children can create characters using feathers, sticks, sponges and paint through messy play activities.
At Butler Gallery in Kilkenny, families can enjoy sensory-friendly workshops, outdoor nature drawing, giant chalk drawing sessions and early years creative play activities, while the National Museum of Ireland hosts free drop-in sketching events inspired by museum collections in both Dublin and Castlebar.
Most events are free and designed as relaxed drop-in sessions, making National Drawing Day a simple and accessible way for families to get creative together across the weekend.
