Shorelines Arts Festival returns to Portumna from 10th - 13th September with four days of music, literature, film, visual arts, workshops and family events taking place in venues across the town. The festival brings together Irish artists, writers, musicians and performers for a varied programme that includes exhibitions, concerts, talks, creative workshops and live performances.
The festival opens with the launch of the annual visual arts exhibition at the Irish Workhouse Centre, alongside exhibitions at Portumna Castle Gallery and photography displays celebrating local artists. Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy concerts featuring traditional and folk musicians including Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Camille O'Sullivan, Máirín Fahy, Yvonne Fahy, Patsy Broderick and Pascal Kennedy, as well as performances by Roscommon Men's Choir and Omna Singers.
A packed programme of literature and talks includes poetry readings, creative writing workshops, history talks, storytelling sessions, author discussions and book events. Film lovers can enjoy a programme of Irish short films, the documentary You Will Die in Prison – An Irishman's Hostage Story, along with discussions and Q&A sessions with filmmakers.
Families are well catered for with face painting, puppet shows, drumming performances, children's writing workshops and storytelling, while adults can take part in singing, painting and creative writing workshops. Street entertainment, music performances and free events throughout the town create a lively atmosphere across the weekend, making Shorelines Arts Festival an enjoyable mix of arts, culture and community activities for visitors of all ages.
