Loughcrew Estate presents its 2nd annual “Fairy Festival.”

After a hugely-successful run in 2018, the Fairy Festival returns this August Bank Holiday Weekend, Sunday 4th & Monday 5th, to Loughcrew Estate and Gardens, Oldcastle, Co. Meath. Both days will feature an array of entertainment with an emphasis on interactive activities for the whole family.

A first for Ireland, the Festival will premiere a children’s opera, an adaptation of the classic Irish myth, “Tír na nÓg,” told through story and performance. One of Ireland’s leading soprano voices, Sandra Oman, brings to life new music from celebrated composer Dominic Crawford Collins, who will also lend his voice to narration. The script is a reworking of the enchanting, and, ultimately, sad tale of Oisín and Niamh, adapted for the stage by upcoming playwright, Sarah McKenna-Dunne.

The Dublin Circus Project make a return with a talented team of performers offering workshops, as does local musician Kyle Riley, bringing his popular brand of folk music for children. Other activities include portraiture, henna, and an interactive walk, with merchant and food stalls rounding out the festival.

Loughcrew Gardens have long celebrated Irish Mythology and Folklore and provide the ideal backdrop for what promises to be an engaging and singular experience for the whole family to enjoy, located an hour from Dublin via the M3.
