Marsh's Library

Step inside one of Dublin’s hidden gems and Ireland’s first public library, founded in 1707 beside St Patrick’s Cathedral. Marsh’s Library offers a rare glimpse into the 18th century, with original oak bookcases, historic reading cages and an atmospheric garden tucked away from the city streets.
he current exhibition showcases some of the most exquisite bookbindings in the collection, adding to the sense of wonder and discovery.
Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace or chat with knowledgeable staff who share the remarkable stories behind the books, readers and curiosities within.
The library is open Tuesday to Friday from 9.30am to 5pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. Admission is €7 for adults, €4 for students and seniors, with free entry for under 18s, social welfare recipients and Ukrainian citizens. Tickets can be booked online or paid at the door. Please note, due to the building’s historic nature, the main library is not wheelchair accessible.
