About Under the Big Oak Exhibition
Under the Big Oak is a free family exhibition that brings together storytelling and visual art through a thoughtful and imaginative display. Created by artist and author Jole Bortoli in collaboration with children aged 8 to 12, the exhibition follows a group of woodland animals as they gather to face the challenges of a changing and unpredictable climate.
Through a trail of illustrations and paintings, visitors can explore the story as it unfolds, with each piece reflecting the animals’ journey and the ideas developed by the children involved. The exhibition creates a calm and engaging space where young visitors can connect with both the narrative and the artwork.
The themes explored throughout the exhibition link to environmental awareness, nature and creativity, making it particularly relevant for families and schools. It also connects with elements of the SESE and Visual Arts curricula, encouraging observation, discussion and creative thinking.
Jole Bortoli, a visual artist and founder of Art to Heart, has spent over 20 years working in community and educational settings. Her work combines illustration, design and storytelling, with a focus on collaboration and creative expression, making this exhibition a reflective and accessible experience for all ages.
