Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival

The village of Moynalty will once again echo with the sounds of steam engines and working horses as it hosts the 50th annual Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival. Taking place on Sunday 10th August in the museum grounds and parkland, this much-loved event brings the traditions of Irish farming to life. Festival highlights include live displays of steam and horse-drawn threshing, binding, forging, basket weaving and wood turning. A crowd favourite, the vintage road-making display returns with demonstrators from England and Ireland recreating the methods used over a century ago. The museum of rural artefacts will also be open, offering a glimpse into local history. Children can enjoy amusements, a dog show and plenty of family-friendly activities, while adults browse the craft and trade stalls or enjoy the live music stage. Performers include The Highstool Prophets, Gavin Gribben, Paul Kelly and a headline performance from country music star Derek Ryan. The popular Queen of Steam competition and a pig on the spit will round out the day’s entertainment. Gates open from 9am to 7pm...
