Kissane Sheep Farm is a traditional working farm set in the hills near Moll’s Gap, along the Ring of Kerry between Kenmare and Killarney. Open to visitors from spring through mid-October, the farm offers a rare opportunity to experience real mountain sheep farming in one of the most scenic parts of Ireland.
Family-run for generations, the farm is home to around 1,000 sheep and provides an authentic glimpse into rural life. Demonstrations take place throughout the season and include skilled sheepdog trials, where trained Border Collies respond to whistles and commands to guide flocks across the hillside. Seasonal highlights include lamb-feeding in spring and live shearing displays in summer.
The experience is both educational and hands-on, offering a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for families. Visitors are encouraged to get involved, chat with the farmers and learn more about the daily rhythms of the land. You won’t find formal tours or exhibits here – just an honest, down-to-earth experience that reflects the heritage and hard work of Irish sheep farming.
Entry is paid on arrival, with no booking required. Demonstration times vary, so it’s best to check the website or arrive early on the day. Children under five go free, and group visits can be arranged by appointment. Whether you’re drawn by the views, the animals or the chance to step into a simpler way of life, a visit to Kissane Sheep Farm is both memorable and uniquely Irish.
