The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival returns for its 72nd year, celebrating Galway’s oyster heritage, seafood and maritime traditions with three days of food, live music, entertainment and events across the city.
Friday includes oyster farm tours and the Oyster Trail, with seafood, drinks pairings, live shucking demonstrations and entertainment at participating venues. The Irish Oyster Opening Championship takes place at An Púcán, where competitors battle for the national title and a place in Saturday’s World Championship.
On Saturday, the Parade of Flags travels from Eyre Square to Cross Street ahead of the World Oyster Opening Championship. Competitors from around the world will race against the clock on the festival stage, with a seafood market and live entertainment adding to the atmosphere. Entry to the festival zone is free.
Sunday has a particular focus on families, marine life and sustainability. A free guided shore walk takes place at Grattan Beach, while Aistear an Uisce at Galway Docks features immersive VR underwater ocean tours, marine science talks, a Meet the Scientist market, food stalls and drumming workshops. The Sunday programme is free and designed for all ages.
