Old Fort Quarter Festival, Portlaoise
The Old Fort Quarter is the area of Portlaoise town centre in which the original 'Fort of Maryborough' was situated.
The Old Fort Quarter Festival celebrates the heritage of the Old Fort of Maryborough in Portlaoise taking place from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th June 2018.
Over three days, the Old Fort Quarter will come alive with traditional medieval activities such as archery and shield-making.
The historic streets will be a hive of activity with live street theatre, artisanal food markets and live music along with lots of activities for young children. Historians will host heritage exhibitions, offering a window into medieval life at the Old Fort of Maryborough.
As part of Cruinniú na nÓg on 23rd June the Old Fort Quarter Festival will be celebrating this day with a whole host of creative activities for children and young people.
On Fitzmaurice Plaza from 12 noon to 5pm, there will be:
- Art and circus skill workshops,
- Cup cake decorating
- Shield making
- Intercultural dance, drama and music performances for and by young people and children
In the Dunamaise Arts Centre there will be:
- Storytelling for children
- Introductory instrument playing
- Dance performances
- Silent disco
- Rap workshop
